Questions.
Short answers, in plain words.
What is Gusset?
A personal logbook for the engineering experience you need before you apply for your licence in Canada. Say what you did today in a sentence; it keeps a dated record against the 34 competencies most regulators assess.
How does it work?
Type or say a sentence about your day. Gus files it with a title, the month and the competencies it shows, and asks one short question if something important is missing. You review every entry.
Does it write my application for me?
No. Gusset keeps you on the right side of your regulator's AI rules. Some regulators don't allow AI to create or embellish experience examples. So Gus never writes your final examples: Gus gathers your own sentences from your entries for you to choose from, and checks what you wrote against them. You write, sign and submit everything yourself.
Is it accurate?
Gus is AI, and AI can be wrong: a date, a sum, a competency that doesn't fit. Everything Gus files is labelled, and nothing goes anywhere until you've read it. Your regulator's own current rules are the only authority.
Which provinces does it cover?
Every province and territory except Québec. The shared competency-based assessment (34 competencies) is used in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island; Ontario, Alberta and the territories are filed against the same list for now, and each province's guide says what differs. Checked weekly against every regulator's official guidelines. Always confirm with yours. Gusset isn't available in Québec yet. Gusset is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by any regulator.
What are the 34 competencies?
Most Canadian engineering regulators assess experience against 34 competencies in seven groups, from codes and standards to communication, project management, ethics and sustainability. gussetlog.ca/competencies lists each one, with the guide it comes from.
How do I track my work experience for a licence?
Keep a dated record of your engineering experience as you go, in your own words: what you did, your part in it, the outcome and who supervised, tagged by competency. Gusset does that from one sentence a day; a spreadsheet works too if you keep it up.
How do I write CBA competency examples?
One real situation each: the task, what you personally did and decided, the outcome, and why that shows the competency. Specific, first person, no team credit. Gusset lays out your logged facts and checks your draft; you write it. Our guide: gussetlog.ca/guides/writing-competency-examples.
Do I need a licensed supervisor to validate my experience?
Regulators ask for a validator, usually a P.Eng., with direct knowledge of your work, usually your supervisor; the rules differ by province, so check your regulator's guide. Gusset lets your validator comment on the drafts you send them before you submit; it never validates anything itself.
Can I use AI to write my competency examples?
No. Gusset keeps you on the right side of your regulator's AI rules. Gus gathers your own notes and checks; you write every word, and you sign it.
What does it cost?
Logging is free. You pay for Gus. Free: writing entries, filing them to competencies yourself, editing, validators and export. Free also starts you with 10 entries filed by Gus, 3 "Gus checks it" (gathering your notes for a competency counts as one). Typing entries yourself is free, and export is always free. Pro: C$129 a year (C$10.75/mo, billed yearly) or C$19 a month. The Application Pass is C$99 once for six months of Pro that never renews, and Gus also files every entry you typed yourself. The first 500 paid members can get yearly at a founding price of C$99 a year, kept for as long as they stay subscribed. All sales final. Cancel anytime. Fair use on Pro: 40 "Gus checks it" a month (60 on the Pass) and 100 minutes of talking with Gus a month; everything else keeps working. You cancel in Settings in one step. Prices in CAD; no other fees, and no tax is added.
Where is my record stored, and who can see it?
Stored in Canada. Gus's AI runs through Anthropic, which doesn't train on your entries. Each account can read only its own rows, and nobody at Gusset reads your entries. We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
Can my validator see my entries?
No. Your entries are always private. A validator sees only the competency drafts you send them with Ask for feedback, and comments only on those. Remove them any time and their access ends.
Can I talk instead of typing?
Yes, two ways. Tap the mic: your words appear as you speak, free, with no limit. Or tap the voice button and talk with Gus out loud; when you tap Done, your own words are filed as one note. Free includes 5 minutes of talk in all and Pro 100 a month; only your own talking counts.
Where does my voice go?
Through Deepgram, a US speech service. It keeps nothing after each request and doesn't train on it. Gusset never stores audio, only the words.
Can I attach drawings, photos or reports?
No. Gusset takes words only, so nothing confidential ends up here by accident. Say what the document showed, in a sentence, and keep it generic.
What if I change jobs?
Your record is yours, not your employer's. Sign up with a personal email or Google account and it stays with you. Change the sign-in email in Settings any time.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. Any modern browser, and you can add it to your home screen on iPhone or Android so it opens like an app, with a reminder if you want one.
How do I get my data out, or delete it?
Settings > Export (CSV): your entries as a spreadsheet and your examples as documents, free on every plan. Download all my data gives everything in one file; Delete account removes it all at once.
