Terms of Service
Last updated October 17, 2026 · Version 2026-10-12.1, in force since October 12, 2026
The short version
This summary is here to help. The full terms below are what apply.
- Gusset is a personal tool for keeping a record of your own work experience. You write the record, review it and decide what to do with it.
- Gus, the assistant, is AI. What Gus files, suggests and points out can be wrong. Read and correct everything before you rely on it. Gus never writes your competency examples: you write them, in your own words. Gusset never submits anything to a regulator for you.
- Gusset is not professional, legal or engineering advice, does not guarantee a licence or any regulator's decision, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any engineering regulator.
- Keep it generic. Don't enter confidential, client-identifying or export-controlled information, or other people's personal information.
- A Pro subscription renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel in Settings at any time, and you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. The Application Pass is one payment for six months and never renews.
- All sales are final, except where the law where you live requires a refund. If we charge you by mistake, we fix it.
- Your entries are yours. You can export them or delete your account whenever you like.
- Nothing in these terms takes away rights that the consumer protection law where you live says can't be taken away.
1. Who we are and how this agreement is made
Gusset Log is a registered business name of Mridul Sharma, an individual in New Brunswick, Canada ("Gusset", "we", "us"). You can reach us at support@gussetlog.com.
Mailing address available on request: support@gussetlog.com
These terms are a contract between you and us. You accept them when you tick "I agree to the Terms and Privacy Policy" while creating an account or when asked to agree to a new version. We keep a record of the version you agreed to and when. If you don't agree, don't use Gusset.
The Privacy Policy, the Acceptable Use Policy and the Cookies page are part of these terms.
2. Who can use Gusset
- You must be 18 or older.
- Gusset is offered in Canada, except Québec. It is not offered to residents of Québec or of any country other than Canada, and it is not designed for use from anywhere else.
- You must not be barred from receiving the service under the laws of Canada, including sanctions and export control laws.
- One person, one account. Your account is for you only.
3. What Gusset is, and what it is not
Gusset helps you keep a dated record of your engineering work experience and prepare your own competency examples from it.
- Not advice. Nothing in Gusset is professional, legal, engineering or career advice. Competency lists, limits and requirements shown in Gusset are our summaries of published material and may be out of date or wrong for you. Your regulator's own current rules are the only authority.
- No guarantee of any outcome. We do not promise that using Gusset will lead to a licence, to an application being accepted, or to any decision by a regulator, employer, validator or supervisor.
- Not affiliated. Gusset is independent. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any engineering regulator or Engineers Canada, and none of them has reviewed it. "P.Eng." and similar terms are used only to describe what you are working toward.
- Gusset never submits anything for you. Any application, form or statement you give to a regulator is yours alone.
4. AI output is yours to check
Gus is an AI assistant. Gus files your notes into entries, suggests which competencies they relate to, asks follow-up questions, shows your own sentences from your entries for a competency, for you to choose from ("Gather my notes"), and checks an example you wrote against your entries ("Gus checks it"). Gus never writes, rewrites or adds words to your examples.
- Gus never writes your competency examples. Some regulators don't allow AI to create or embellish them. Gus guides and checks; the words of your examples are yours. Following your own regulator's rules on AI is your responsibility.
- AI output can be wrong, incomplete or badly worded, even when it looks confident and detailed. It may misread what you wrote, suggest a competency that doesn't fit, or get a date or a sum wrong.
- You must review and edit everything Gus files or suggests before you rely on it or give it to anyone.
- You are responsible for the truth and accuracy of your record and of anything you submit to a regulator or anyone else. When you sign or attest to a statement, you are attesting to your own words, not ours.
- What you type or say to Gus is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, in the United States, to produce Gus's answer. Speech goes through Deepgram, in the United States, to become text (and Gus's replies to become Gus's voice); Gusset never stores audio. See the Privacy Policy.
5. Your content
"Your content" is what you type or say into Gusset and the entries, examples and notes made from it.
- You own it. We claim no ownership of your content.
- Our licence is limited. You give us permission to store, copy, process and display your content only as needed to run Gusset for you: saving it, showing it to you, sending it to our service providers to draft and store it, backing it up, and keeping the service safe. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models, and our AI provider's terms say it does not train on it either.
- You are responsible for your content. You promise that you have the right to enter it and that it is honestly your own experience.
- You can export your entries and delete your account at any time in Settings.
- Validators. You can add your validator (usually the licensed engineer who supervised the work), or anyone you choose, by name and email. They get a free Gusset account that shows only the competency drafts you send them with "Ask for feedback" (never your entries), where they can comment and nothing else. You decide who sees what, and you can remove them at any time, which ends their access at once. You are responsible for having their agreement and for what you share. A comment is a note between the two of you: it is not a verification or an approval by anyone, and Gusset doesn't check what you wrote. At most 5 people a day and 3 new ones a day, to keep it from being used to send unwanted email.
- Stamped is your own mark. You stamp a competency when you have submitted it in your regulator's portal. It is your own tracker: not an official stamp, seal or signature, and not a record of anything a regulator decided.
- If you are added as a validator, these terms apply to you too. Use what you're shown only to comment on that person's work, keep it confidential, and don't copy it elsewhere.
What you must not enter. Gusset takes words only (there is no way to attach a file), and those words must not include:
- anything your employer or a client treats as confidential or proprietary;
- information that identifies a client, or a project a client would consider confidential;
- export-controlled or classified material (for example ITAR, EAR, or Canada's Controlled Goods Program);
- personal information about other people, beyond the name and professional title of a supervising engineer (and their email address, if you add them as a validator);
- anything you don't have the right to share, or that breaks the law.
6. Acceptable use
The Acceptable Use Policy applies. In short, you must not:
- scrape, crawl or copy the service or its content by automated means, or access it with bots or scripts;
- reverse engineer, decompile or try to extract the service's source code, prompts or models, except where the law allows this despite a contract;
- abuse or overload the AI, try to get around usage limits, or try to make the assistant ignore its instructions or reveal them ("prompt injection");
- resell, rent or offer the service to others, or share your account or sign-in;
- test or probe the service's security without our written permission, or interfere with it;
- record experience you didn't have, or use Gusset to mislead a regulator, employer or anyone else;
- use Gusset for anything unlawful.
Limits. To keep the service fair and affordable we limit how often and how much it can be used, including a number of AI requests per minute and per day and spending caps on AI use. The current limits are applied automatically and may change. When a limit is reached, logging still works without the AI.
7. Your account
- Keep access to your sign-in email and any Google account you sign in with secure. You are responsible for what happens on your account, unless it results from our own failure to take reasonable care.
- Tell us at once at support@gussetlog.com if you think someone else has used your account.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, that is used abusively or fraudulently, that we learn belongs to someone under 18, or where the law requires it. Where it is reasonable and safe to do so, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your entries.
8. Free and Pro
- The free plan. Logging is free: writing entries, filing them to competencies yourself, editing, validators and export cost nothing on the free plan and have no limit. You pay for Gus. Free also starts you with a one-time allowance: Gus files your first 10 entries, 3 "Gus checks it" (gathering your notes for a competency counts as one) and 5 minutes of talking with Gus in all (only your own talking counts). Dictation is free. When a starter allowance is used up, that feature waits until you upgrade; your record is never locked, and you can export it at any time.
- Fair use on Pro. Pro includes up to 40 "Gus checks it" a calendar month on Monthly and Yearly, the founding price included (60 on the Application Pass) and up to 100 minutes of talking with Gus a month; when one is used up, that feature waits until the next month while everything else carries on. Gus filing your entries has no monthly cap on Pro, within the limits in section 6.
- Pro is paid, in one of two ways: a subscription (monthly or yearly), or the Application Pass (below). The price, currency, period and terms are the ones shown to you at checkout and confirmed by email afterwards. They are part of this agreement. Current prices are on the pricing page.
- Automatic renewal. Pro renews automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) and your payment method is charged the then-current price for your plan, until you cancel.
- How to cancel. Settings > Plan > Cancel subscription, online, at any time, in one step. Cancelling stops future charges. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for, and then your account moves to Free. Your entries are not deleted.
- Reminders. For yearly plans we email you about 30 days before each renewal. For monthly plans we email you a summary of your subscription once a year.
- Price and material changes. We will email you at least 30 days before any price increase or other material change to your subscription takes effect, with the new terms and how to cancel. If you don't cancel before it takes effect, the change applies from your next renewal.
- Founding price. The first 500 paid members can subscribe yearly at a founding price. It is for yearly subscriptions only, and only for people who have not had a Gusset subscription before or whose Application Pass is still running when they subscribe. You keep it for as long as you stay continuously subscribed; if your subscription ends, the founding price does not come back if you return. Whether seats are left is decided by our own count when your checkout opens, and any number of seats we show is that real count.
- Application Pass. One payment for six months of Pro, starting when the payment goes through. It never renews and you are not charged again. While it runs, Gus also files the entries you typed yourself, suggesting competencies without changing your words. Settings shows when it ends. When it ends your account moves to Free and your entries stay. You can't buy a second pass while one is running, or buy a pass while you have a subscription; if one is paid for by mistake, we refund it.
- Pro as a gift. We may give an account Pro for a set time at no charge. It ends on the date shown in Settings, never renews, and is never billed. If you start a subscription while your pass is running, its first charge is on the day the pass ends.
- Taxes. We don't currently charge sales tax, so the price shown is the whole price. If that changes, we will show the tax before you pay, and tell existing subscribers at least 30 days before it applies to them.
- All sales final. Payments, including for the Application Pass, are not refundable and we do not give refunds or credits for part of a billing period, except where the law where you live requires it. If the law gives you a right to cancel and be refunded, write to support@gussetlog.com and we will honour it.
- Billing errors are fixed. If we charge you by mistake (for example, twice for the same period, or after you cancelled), write to support@gussetlog.com and we will refund the mistaken charge.
- Failed payments and chargebacks. If a payment fails, or is reversed or disputed, we may suspend Pro until it is resolved. Your entries stay available on Free.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
9. Availability and your own copies
- Gusset is provided "as is" and "as available". We work to keep it running and backed up, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at any particular time, and we may change, suspend or stop features.
- Keep your own copies. Export your record regularly from Settings. Your record is important to you, and you should not rely on Gusset as the only copy.
- We take reasonable steps to back up the service. Beyond those reasonable steps, we are not responsible for lost data.
- If we ever decide to shut Gusset down, we will give at least 30 days' notice by email where we reasonably can, so you can export your entries.
10. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties and conditions, express, implied or statutory, including implied warranties and conditions of merchantable quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that AI drafts are accurate, complete or suitable for any regulator, or that competency information in Gusset is current.
Some laws do not allow certain warranties to be excluded. Where that is so for you, those exclusions do not apply to you, and section 12 applies.
11. Limit on our liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses, or for lost opportunities, lost income, a delayed, refused or withdrawn licence or application, lost data beyond our reasonable backup steps, or the cost of substitute services, however they arise and even if we were told they were possible.
- Our total liability for all claims connected with Gusset or these terms, in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) C$100.
These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, such as liability for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence where the law does not allow it to be limited. They reflect that Gusset is a low-cost tool, that you check and control everything in your record, and that you can keep your own copies.
12. Your rights as a consumer
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any right or remedy that the consumer protection law of the province or territory where you live gives you and says cannot be waived or limited by contract. If any part of these terms conflicts with such a right, that right prevails for you, and the rest of the terms continue to apply. This includes any right to cancel, to a refund, to statutory warranties, to bring a claim in the courts where you live, or to take part in a class proceeding.
13. You cover costs caused by your content or your breach
To the extent the law allows, if someone else brings a claim against us because of your content (for example, an employer whose confidential information you entered), or because you broke these terms or the law, you will cover the reasonable losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, that we incur as a result. We will tell you about the claim promptly and you may take part in its defence. This does not apply to the extent the claim was caused by our own fault.
14. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. When we do, we will tell you by email or in Gusset before the change takes effect, and ask you to agree to the new version in the app; we keep a record of the version you agreed to and when. A material change that reduces your rights takes effect no sooner than 30 days after we tell you, unless you agree to it sooner. If you don't agree, you can stop using Gusset and delete your account; for a paid plan, you can cancel and keep Pro to the end of the period you paid for. Using Gusset after a change has taken effect means you accept it. The date at the top shows when these terms last changed.
15. Ending this agreement
- You can stop at any time by deleting your account in Settings, which also cancels any subscription.
- We can end it under section 7, or by giving you at least 30 days' notice if we stop offering Gusset.
- What survives: your ownership of your content; sections 3, 4 and 10 to 13; section 16; and anything else that by its nature should continue.
- After an account is deleted, its content is removed as described in the Privacy Policy.
16. Law, courts and time to bring a claim
- Law. These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of New Brunswick and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
- Courts. The courts of New Brunswick have jurisdiction over any dispute, except where the consumer protection law of the place you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts or under your local law; in that case you keep that right.
- No arbitration. These terms do not require arbitration, and they do not stop you from taking part in a class proceeding.
- Talk to us first. Before starting a claim, please write to support@gussetlog.com so we can try to resolve it.
- Time limit. Where the law allows the time for bringing a claim to be shortened by agreement, any claim connected with Gusset or these terms must be started within one year after you first knew, or ought reasonably to have known, of the facts giving rise to it. Where the law does not allow this for you, the usual limitation period applies.
17. General
- Entire agreement. These terms, the policies named in section 1 and the subscription terms shown at checkout are the whole agreement between us about Gusset.
- Severability. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, that part is limited or removed to the smallest extent needed, and the rest stays in effect.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a term at one time, we can still enforce it later.
- Assignment. You may not transfer this agreement. We may transfer it to a company we form to run Gusset, or to a buyer of Gusset or its business, who must honour these terms and the Privacy Policy; we will tell you if that happens.
- Events outside our control. We are not responsible for a failure or delay caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as outages at our hosting, payment, email or AI providers, internet failures, or natural disasters.
- Notices. We send notices to the email address on your account, and they count as received the day after they are sent. Send notices to us at support@gussetlog.com.
- Language. These terms are in English, and English is the language of this agreement and of our dealings with you.
- Export controls. You may not use Gusset in breach of the export control or sanctions laws of Canada or the United States.
- Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions about Gusset, we may use them freely, without payment or obligation to you. This does not apply to your content.
- No partnership. Nothing here makes you and us partners, agents or employees of one another.
